BACKGROUND

<The Little Ice Age>

  There were several periods of being cold in the history. And the term ‘Little Ice Age’ is somewhat questionable because there was no single and well defined period about prolonged cold.

  But what we usually call as the ‘Little Ice Age’ is the period that is roughly between 1300 and 1850. It was in regionally cold conditions. Also one certain characteristic in this period, compared to its before and after, is that there was severe coldness. During this severe cold period, it is said that average temperature was lower than other periods and the average winter temperatures in Europe and North America were 2°C lower than the present.

Why is it cold in the "Little Ice Age"?

  The cause of the temperature decrease during the little ice age can be explained by the cooling after falling of a meteorite based on giant impact hypothesis. Coldization is caused by dust blocking the sun’s rays and heat. Between 1500 and 1750, weather phenomena that cause temperature drops and the concentrated appearance and fall of meteors are showing high frequency. During this period, a total of 2,775 cases of temperature drop and 2704 cases of meteoric rise are occur.
  And another reason that temperature decrease is volcanic eruption. Volcano eruption makes surfate aerosols, and it blocks incoming solar energy. So, temperature cooling arises.

<World War II>

   World War II (often abbreviated to WWII or WW2), also known as the Second World War, was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. The vast majority of the world's countries—including all the great powers—eventually formed two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. A state of total war emerged, directly involving more than 100 million people from more than 30 countries. The major participants threw their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities behind the war effort, blurring the distinction between civilian and military resources. World War II was the deadliest conflict in human history, marked by 70 to 85 million fatalities, most of whom were civilians in the Soviet Union and China. It included massacres, the genocide of the Holocaust, strategic bombing, premeditated death from starvation and disease, and the only use of nuclear weapons in war.
